Mara

Mara, commonly known as "the Keymaster" is the primary antagonist as well as the third and second-to-last boss of Ghostrunner.

History[]

Background[]

Before she turned into the Keymaster, Mara was a great scientist and also Adam's lover. Different plans about future of Dharma split Mara and Adam. She planned to create the fusion of human and machine so humanity could finally leave the Dharma Tower. Adam remained unconvinced of this plan, refused to proceed until after Mara's defeat where he accepted this plan, albeit modified. This was one of the primary reasons for Mara to kill Adam.

Mara faces the Ghostrunner

Knowing the threat GR-74 poses, Mara has Hel face him in combat, commanding her Ghostrunner-variant to defeat him by any means, even self destructing. However the Ghostrunner triumphs over Hel, destroying her.

The Ghostrunner eventually makes it to Mara's lab and engages her in battle, defeating her and stopping her plans.

Mara attacks using her mechanical tentacles, and electrifying the stage.

The battle can be split into 3 phases:[]

Phase 1:[]

Mara has 3 attacks she can spin a tentacle around the stage, which you avoid by jumping over it.

She can put a tentacle under the floor, leaving a trail showing its path; after the tentacle reaches the player it spouts up, which can be dodged by moving quickly horizontally.

She can slam a tentacle from above you, which you avoid by moving to the side quickly.

Her final attack has her lunge a tentacle at you, which will repeat until it hits an electric box. If you dodge by moving to the side in front of an electric box, the tentacle will get stuck, where the player can hit it to move onto the next phase.

Phase 2:[]

In phase 2 all of her previous attacks happen multiple times in a row, but a quarter of the floor will be electrified.

Mara also gets a new attack, where the entire floor gets electrified, which will be signaled by a taunt, and the grapple walls become un-electrified.

Phase 3:[]

The third phase has Mara chain her attacks quickly for the first part.

In second part, Mara electrifies half the floor, which spins while she chains attacks.

During the third part, Mara does the attack where she electrifies the whole floor, then her lunge attack until defeated.
